Operating Procedures for Universal Friction and Wear Testing Machine

一、 Preparation before testing
1. Determine the form of the test friction pair and machine the sample according to the drawing requirements. 
2. Prepare the upper and lower specimens and corresponding fixtures.
3. According to the test requirements, clean the sample, lower disc, and fixture.
4. Turn on the power and click "Start" to turn on the control computer.
5. Start the MMW-1A testing system software.
6. Turn on "power on" and the device will idle and preheat for 10 minutes.
 

二、 Sample clamping
1. Install the prepared sample into the corresponding fixture, hold the fixture and sample in hand, with the cone handle facing upwards, and install it into the spindle cone hole.
2. Rotate the pull rod at the top of the spindle clockwise (looking down) with the other hand, so that the thread at the lower end of the pull rod enters the screw hole at the top of the fixture and is tightened.
3. Place the lower sample (large and small test rings) into the auxiliary disc holder, with the pin hole face down, and align it with the fixing pin on the auxiliary disc holder.
4. When conducting a heating test, after installing the sample, turn on the temperature controller switch, and connect the temperature sensor and power plug.
5. When conducting the medium test, after installing the sample, connect the mud tank to the auxiliary disk, press the sealing ring, install the valve on the auxiliary disk, close it, and pour in the medium.

 

三、 Start the experiment
1. Adjust the height of the lower auxiliary disc: Loosen the locking nut counterclockwise (looking down), rotate the knurled screw counterclockwise to raise the lower guide spindle until there is a gap of 1-2mm between the upper surface of the test ring and the lower surface of the upper sample.
2. Reverse lock the nut to eliminate the thread gap between the knurled screw and the upper force plate.
3. Select the friction pair, set the test force, test time, maximum friction torque (alarm shutdown if exceeding the maximum value), and spindle speed.
4. Click on the test force 'reset'.
5. Click the "Load" button to load the test force.
6. To measure temperature, press the power button of the temperature controller on the lower panel and plug in the temperature sensor. Click the "Start Temperature Measurement" button on the main page to display the temperature in real-time.
7. Click on "Zero Friction"
8. Click the "Start" button, the spindle starts rotating, and the test begins.
9. To stop midway, click the "Stop" button on the main page.
10. During the experiment, the software automatically controls the test force and temperature at the set values. Real time collection of friction torque and spindle rotation, calculation of friction coefficient, display of experimental time and temperature; When the experimental time is up, the testing machine will automatically stop.
 

四、 Data and curve storage
1. After the experiment is over, click 'Save Original Data' to save the original data of the experiment.
2. Click the "Curve Display" button, click "Image Format Save" to save the test curve; Click the 'Back' button to return to the main page.
3. Click on 'Report Processing', enter the basic information of the experiment, set parameters, and click on the 'Confirm' button; Add the header and data, click the "TXT format save" or "RTF format save" button to save the experimental data. Click the 'Exit' button to return to the main page.
 

五、 End the experiment
1. Click the "Uninstall" button on the main page, and the testing machine will automatically remove the testing force until the page displays a limit, and the unloading will automatically stop.
2. Click the "Exit" button on the main page to exit the measurement and control system.
3. After exiting the measurement and control system, loosen the locking nut, unscrew the screw shaft, and lower the lower guide spindle until there is enough space between the upper and lower specimens to disassemble them.
4. Take out the lower sample, loosen the pull rod, and gently tap the pull rod downwards until the fixture and spindle are loose. Remove the fixture and upper sample.
5. Observe the experimental results and keep good records of the experiment.
6. Turn off the computer, press the "Power Off" button on the lower panel to turn off the power of the entire machine.
